Future Project Information
Shady Retreat SRTS
This project will involve the construction of approximately 1 mile of shared use path along Burpee Road, North Shady Retreat Road and Limekiln Road (SR 4007) in Doylestown Township. This project will create a safe connection between local residential communities and the surrounding schools including Delaware Valley College, Doyle Elementary School, and Lenape Middle School. Additionally, the new shared use path will connect to existing paths leading to Central Park, as well as the Route 202 Trail. This project will address pedestrian and bicycle safety concerns at the intersection of North Shady Retreat Road and Burpee Road by adding a 3-way stop condition. Additionally, the Limekiln Road bridge over PA Route 611 will be modified to provide a separated walking/bicycling area across the structure. The Shady Retreat SRTS Project connects major community facilities to local schools in the area by providing an accessible route for pedestrians, cyclists, and individuals with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The grant obtained is the DVRPC (Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission) safe routes to school Program.
- Grant Amount: $985K
The objectives of the SRTS Program are:
- To enable and encourage children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school;
- To make bicycling and walking to school a safer and more appealing transportation alternative, thereby encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age; and
- To facilitate the development and implementation of projects and activities that will improve safety and reduce traffic, fuel consumption, and air pollution in the vicinity of primary and middle schools (Grades K-8).
