Annual Arbor Day Celebrations

The EAC/Shade Tree Commission celebrate Arbor Day each year with a tree planting event on the last Saturday in April. The trees are planted in a public area that need beautification. The celebration typically includes a demonstration on how to property plant trees, planting trees, tree maintenance like mulching, a presentation of the Tree City USA* Award, and light refreshments. The public is invited to join in the free celebration and learn about the importance of trees. If you are interested in volunteering for Arbor Day, please contact us at info@doylestownpa.org.

Resources

Invasive Plant Workshop

Each year the EAC hosts a Spring and Fall Invasive Identification & Removal Workshop. This Workshop currently takes places at Central Park and aims to educate participants about invasive plants and how to eradicate them. These workshops are hands-on and contribute to the beautification of the park system. These workshops are often volunteer driven so tools are limited and the Township encouraged residents who participate to bring their own tools.

Workshop dates and topics will be announced in the near future

Native Plant Garden

The Native Plant Demonstration Garden was founded in 2014 and began as an idea to develop and use the existing Environmental Education Center located by the basin behind Kids Castle in Central Park. After years of hard work and dedication spearheaded by the EAC, the Garden has won various awards and if recognized by Pennsylvania Horticultural Society as a Garden of Distinction.

The Native Plant Demonstration Garden has an established ‘brigade” of volunteers who participate in work days. This group meets on the 4th Saturday of every from March through November, 9am to 11am to preform weeding, planting, clean up and another other duties that are addressed on site. The volunteers range in age and experience but the love and dedication of using native plants in the landscape brings this group together.

If you or your organization want to to get involved with the Native Plant garden, email info@doylestownpa.org.
