Open Records - Right To Know

Pennsylvania’s New Right-to-Know Law, Act 3 of 2008, was signed into law by Gov. Edward G. Rendell on February 14, 2008 and became effective January 1, 2009. The Doylestown Township Police Department has established an open records officer for any requests made under the new law. The Doylestown Township Police has adopted a standard “Right-To-Know Request Form” which is available for download under the Forms and Fees menu.

Investigative reports

The Doylestown Township Police Department does not release police investigative reports to the public without a subpoena.  Investigative reports resulting in a criminal investigation are exempt from disclosure under the Act 3 of 2008 Pennsylvania’s Right To Know Law. For those citizens who need a report for insurance or other purposes, the Department can issue a Uniform Investigative Report (U.I.R.) Letter – which is a summation of the report that indicates the incident was reported to the Department.  There is a $15.00 fee for the U.I.R. Letter.

Traffic crash (accident) reports

Copies of traffic crash (accident) reports are available at the Department during normal business hours.  There is a $15.00 fee for a basic report, or a $100.00 fee for a traffic crash reconstruction report.  If photographs were taken by the department, they are available for purchase at $15.00 each.
